India is the largest producer of Niger seeds in the world, the other main producers being Burma & Ethiopia. India produces more than 150000 Metric Tons per annum. Niger is a black-colored and shiny oilseed. It contains around 30% oil and is grown mostly on the foothills in the interior parts of India.

The Niger crop is harvested in the months of November and December. The main markets of Niger are USA and Europe where it is used mainly as a bird feed. Niger seed is popular amongst the gold finch variety of birds. Manorama exports the same in 50 kg plastic or gunny bags with 99% purity..
