Manorama Group is the pioneers of the Mango kernel, Sal seed, Kokum Seed (etc.) Revolution in India. The Sal seeds are a product of the Sal tree (Shorea Robusta) which grows naturally in India (auto germinated plant). It is purely non-GMO (genetically modified organism), and no pesticides or fertilizers are required to enhance its yield. Further, the seeds are naturally handpicked by tribal women in the forests. No chemicals are added during the collection, and even the kernel is prepared by a traditional burning and rubbing process without the use of any chemical preservatives. All this ensures that the seeds do not contain any chemical residue which makes the entire process, and the product – purely organic.

In addition to the above, there is a significant social and economic value in starting the Sal revolution. The seed-picking process involves tribals in the forests, which helps provide them a livelihood along with socially integrating them into the mainstream economy.

The core philosophy here - is that of nurturing the people who nurture the forests that provides the raw material to our business. This makes the whole process environment friendly and also helps improve the socio-economic status of marginalized people. The Govt of India has recognized this time and again in the form of numerous awards.

Sal Seeds

Sal Seed is fruit of Sal tree (Shorea robusta) which is a widely distributed and economically crucial tree in Central India. The Sal tree grows mainly in moist evergreen regions of India and Sal forests occupy 116000 sq. km or broadly 14 % of the total forest area of India, mainly in Chattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Bihar. The fruit of the Sal tree contains Butter seeds that bear approximately 14%-15% butter content. The potential amount of Butter collectable from Sal seeds is around 1.25 – 1.5 lakh tons annually.

Mango Kernels (Seed)

India is one of the largest mango producing countries with a reported export of 79,061 metric tons of fresh mangoes in the year 2006-2007, (Source: Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority). An average mango kernel contains about 8% to 15% extract potential (butter and fats), which is why Mango Kernels have a huge potential. Mango Kernels are available throughout the county with a collection of around 25000 to 30000 tons in May- June.

Kokum Seeds

The Kokum tree (Garcinia Indica) is slender, small and evergreen with drooping branches. It is found in the evergreen forests of western Ghats from Konkan to Mysore region. It flowers from November to February and the fruits ripen in April and May. The lemon sized dark purple ripe fruits contain 5 to 8 large seeds. The fruit has an agreeable flavor and a sweetish acid taste. The outer rind of the fruit is a very popular culinary ingredient in all Maharashtra and Konkan region. The fruits are beaten with sticks to separate the rind from the seeds which account for 20-23% of the fruit’s weight. On an average, a tree yields 60-80 kg of seeds. In villages, the seeds are covered with ashes, dried & decorticated by pressing with a wooden plank and the kernels recovered by winnowing.

Dhupa seeds

DHUPA trees grow mostly in moist evergreen forests in the Western Ghats .DHUPA tress have also been extensively planted as an avenue tree in parts of Karnataka and Kerala states. The flowering time is from January to March and fruits ripen from May to July .The fruits are fleshly, wingless, about 50 to 60 mm long and contain one large seed

Shea Seeds

Africa produces about 17,60,000 tons of raw shea nuts annually from its wild trees, mainly in the Savannah and Sahel regions, but producers harvest and process only a fraction, about 35% (about 600,000 tons), for exportation as butter or nuts. The major shea seed producing countries in Africa are Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo, Senegal, Uganda, Ghana and Central African Republic. Nut volumes at the markets are highest in the months of June, July and August.

Mowrah seeds

Mowrah is a medium sized to large deciduous tree found in UP, MP, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh states of India. It is a large evergreen tree commonly found in South India and the monsoon forest of the western Ghats from Konkan southwards. The tree, its flowers, and seeds have all been gainfully. The fruit is rich in sugar (73%) and next to cane molasses constitutes the most important raw material for alcohol fermentation. The orange-brown, ripe and fleshly berry contains 1 – 4 shining seeds. The seeds can be separated from the fruit wall by pressing. Each seed contains two kernels, and the kernels contain about 50% Butter. The estimated potential of the kernel is 1.11 million tons and butter 400.000 tons assuming an average 36% yield.

Phulwara Seeds

Phulwara Butter is extracted from seeds of Phulwara tree (Diploknema butyracea; family Sapotaceae). Phulwara Trees are also known locally as Chiuri Trees, Kaeleb Trees, or Butter Nut Trees. Refined Phulwara Butter is marketed as Phulwara Ghee. Ripened Phulwara fruits are collected by hand or by beating the plant with long bamboo sticks, the harvested fruits are dried in shade for eight to twelve days. Seeds can be separated from fruits either manually or mechanically. If the quantity of fruits is relatively small, the fruits are crushed manually and the seeds separated, for larger quantities, a roller machine is used for seed extraction. The machine sequences the fruit through trays, collecting fresh fruit at one end and the seeds at the lower end.
